Welcome to Oakfarm Berners

Welcome to Oakfarm Berners – proud breeder of CKC Registered Bernese Mountain Dogs. Oakfarm is a second generation, family owned kennel.

Oakfarm began breeding Registered Bernese Mountain Dogs in 1991. We are a member in good standing with the Canadian Kennel Club. All of our pups are home raised and receive a lot of interaction with our family. All of our dogs reside in our home and have plenty of room to run on property.

In order to maintain the standards of the breed, we have imported males and females from Switzerland, Scotland and the USA.

FAQs

What questions should I ask myself before buying?

  • Does your regular schedule allow you to care for a dog? To feed him? To exercise daily?
  • Do you love the outdoors enough to go outside in all weathers?
  • Do you have the patience and willingness to train a puppy?
  • Does your budget allow you to see to their well-being and care?
  • If you have children, how will they treat a puppy? A large grown dog?

Are your puppies guaranteed?
Yes, all of our puppies are guaranteed for eyes, hips and elbows for the first two years and are sold with their first round of vaccines, wormer and are micro chipped.

Does a BMD shed regularly?
Yes, a Bernese Mountain Dog sheds a little but quite significantly once a year.

Should I choose a Male or Female?
It's all about personal choice and feeling. Each puppy has its own personality and that personality should weigh more in the decision than gender. Males are generally larger and stronger than females.

What and how much should I feed a BMD Puppy?
You should plan to feed a mid-range to high end dry food. Dry food doesn’t require preparation time and it is considered well balanced food. We feed Purina products for the pups and Iams for our adults and will send along with a feeding guide with your puppy. It is extremely important not to overfeed your puppy as they could develop health problems if they grow too quickly.

A diet of fresh meat and vegetables is also suitable.

Do you sell puppies with breeding rights?
All puppies from Oakfarm are sold with non-breeding rights. Allow in your budget the cost for spaying or neutering. Puppies should be spayed or neutered after 6 months old.

What is the life expectancy of a BMD?
Bernese Mountain Dogs live about or a little more than eight years. Large dogs don’t live as long as small dogs. We have had some live to 12 years – for this, we are fortunate.
